Opening access to knowledge for effective scholarly communication in health sciences universities of Tanzania(2011-2012)

The study analyses the researchers perception on open access, usage of open access forums for accessing and disseminating research findings, factors that enable or disable adoption and use of open access, and lastly determines strategies to enhance use of open access for effective scholarly communication in the health field in Tanzania. Finally, upon completion of the research, this study expects to provide empirical findings that could be used to accelerate the scholarly communication process in health sciences universities in Tanzania. Other expected outcomes include: to provide findings that could be used by universities to establish institutional repositories and open access journals in order to remove access and permission barrier to scholarly literature; to provide findings that could help to encourage knowledge sharing culture through open access forum among scientists; and to build the knowledge base by providing a general framework for further similar studies in a related context.
